This beautiful house came into being in 2011 as a private, large two-storey home with six bedrooms, a garden, a swimming pool, and manager quarters. This unique home was crafted with love and embodies a Western aesthetic, featuring larger bedrooms, spacious windows, and meticulous attention to detail in the finishings and overall ambiance. The architect of Sangam House was Suhasini Ayer from Auroville, where she also designed the well-known Visitors Center. What makes this place exceptional is its extraordinary view of the Holy Arunachala from the roof and its proximity to the Ramana Maharshi Ashram, which is just a 10-minute walk from the front door.
In 2022, the vision for this lovely private residence expanded to include the creation of a space for groups to hold retreats. This vision became a reality in early 2023. The high standard of construction and design was upheld with the addition of more floors, guest rooms, living rooms, and meeting areas. The rooms have been thoughtfully finished with comfort and beauty in mind, while the mid-level floor remains a private residence.
The additional floors can accommodate up to 21 guests. There are 10 bedrooms available: 7 with double occupancy, 2 with triple occupancy, and 1 single bedroom. All bedrooms have en-suite bathrooms, except for the single bedroom, which has a bathroom located right beside it. We will guide you in selecting the most suitable bedrooms for your retreat, based on your group size and the number of bedrooms you wish to use. Bedrooms not in use will remain unavailable to others. The house is reserved exclusively for each retreat.
Sangam Retreat House offers a variety of exquisite shared spaces for group gatherings, as well as serene spots for solitude, contemplation, and meditation. The top floor features a large tiled roof that can accommodate more than 100 people for open-air Satsang with a stunning view of Arunachala. A cozy ground floor area overlooking the pool is ideal for smaller gatherings.
A comfortable living room, equipped with a shared refrigerator and a kettle for making tea, is available for everyone’s use. The veranda, rooftop, and garden areas around the swimming pool provide lovely spaces to retreat and be alone. The use of all these additional spaces is included in your stay at the house.
Sangam House is not a guest house and does not accommodate occasional visitors. All residents of the house are retreat participants attending the same retreat.
Sangam House is equipped with an elevator, filtered water in all taps, yoga mats, hair dryers, and electrical sockets compatible with UK, US, and IN plugs. Please note that the voltage is 220, and 110-volt devices cannot be used without a converter. The house also features two washing machines available for participants, with the option to send clothes out for ironing at a low cost.
Sangam Retreat House is an alcohol-free, smoking-free, and drug-free zone.
