The Logo

The designer writes about the Logo

The Sangam Retreat House logo is designed to represent the essence and location of the retreat center through a combination of visual elements and symbolism.

Lord Shiva: The illustration of Lord Shiva in the foreground of the logo pays homage to Lord Shiva, the adiyogi – the first yogi, god of transformation and regeneration. Shiva is the primary deity worshipped in Tiruvannamalai, where Arunachala is one among the five most sacred abodes of the god in southern India. Shiva, also known as MahaDeva, is timelessly supple in his many aspects from benevolence as an ascetic yogi and as a householder, to wild and fierce when depicted as slaying demons. His blue complexion is a testament to his victory over poisons. The serpents coiled around him symbolize his mastery over the Kundalini energy. The crescent moon on Shiva’s head symbolizes his power over time, cycles and the changing nature of existence.

Flame Motif: As legend goes, in order to settle an argument between Brahma and Vishnu about who is mightier, Shiva manifested himself as a column of light and then as the form of Arunachala. This column of light is depicted in the logo as the flame motif adorning Shiva.

Arunachala Hills: The silhouette of Arunachala Hills in deep forest green with golden contour lines represents the physical location of the retreat center. It signifies the natural beauty and serenity of the surroundings, as well as the connection to the mystical landscape.

Sunrise and Mandala: The vermillion sunrise lighting up the deep blue-purple dawn skies behind the mountain symbolizes the new beginnings and spiritual awakening that can be experienced at the retreat center. The mandala with nine petals in golden color is a stylized representation of liberated souls in ascension, signifying the transformative and uplifting experience that Sangam offers.

Logotype: The logotype “Sangam” is designed in a fantasy-inspired font with a handwritten and ornamental style. The burnished gold color adds a touch of elegance and sophistication to the overall feel.

Overall, the Sangam Retreat House logo combines elements of spirituality, nature and mystical symbolism to create a visual representation of the retreat center’s essence, location, and offerings. It evokes a sense of serenity, transformation and divine presence, aligning with the retreat center’s purpose and vision.
